Two file for school board seats

Two more Wichitans threw their hats into the political ring Thursday.

Bob Payton filed for re-election to Place 1 on the Wichita Falls Independent School District board. Payton, a former school board president, has been on the board since 2004. District 1 represents a large portion of western Wichita Falls.

Also filing Thursday for one of two open at-large seats on the board was Hal Newsom, a retired teacher. He joins the race with incumbent Allyson Flack and Elizabeth Yeager.

Filing for places on the school board and the Wichita Falls City Council are open through Feb. 28. Filing for city offices may be done at City Hall

Filing for the school board may be done at school administration offices at 1104 Broad St.

Glad to see some new blood trying for the board. A little fresh thinking and someone with actual classroom experience will be refreshing.

I would like to see a challenger for every incumbent. Nothing against Mr. Payton, but ten years on the board is enough. It is increasingly evident that we need some fresh ideas, and fresh perspective.
