Vernon 21, Iowa Park 15

IOWA PARK — The Iowa Park Hawks ran out of time Friday night against the Vernon Lions.

A late drive came up just short for the Hawks as the Lions held on for the 21-15 win.

The Hawks (1-9, 1-4) drove from their own 36 to the 2-yard line in the closing seconds, but didn't have any timeouts remaining — although the scoreboard indicated they had one — and the Lions (2-8, 1-4) were able to pick up their first district win.

David Garza scored a pair of touchdowns for the Lions — one on a 64-yard fumble return and the other on a 15-yard pass from Parker Johnson.

Johnson also ran 8 yards for a score as the Lions led 21-8 heading into the final period.

Garrett Davis scored the first IP touchdown on a 48-yard run and Justin Cantrell caught a 19-yard TD pass from Jace Langen in the fourth quarter to make it a six-point game.

Orlando Hayman led the Vernon ground game with 105 yards, while Johnson completed 15-of-26 passes for 153 yards. Davis had 115 yards rushing for the Hawks .
