Throckmorton standouts earn all-state nods

Several Throckmorton players from this season's title-winning football team earned Six-Man all-state honors.

Tucker Brown was named the Division I Player of the Year as the Greyhounds' starting quarterback. Brown also started at safety in the title game and made several big plays in their 48-36 win over Borden County.

Three other starters on Throckmorton's prolific offense had first-team honors — receiver Gary Farquhar, fullback Levi Taylor and utility back C.J. Hantz. Nathan Riley was a first-team utility player on defense.

Throckmorton also was named the top Division I coach staff. Three Greyhounds were second-team selections — tight end Ridge Rankin, center Blayton Oliver and safety Rawlin Morrell.

Throckmorton wasn't the only area team to receive accolades as several area teams were represented on Division I and II all-state teams.

Knox City's Blake Jones was a first-team tight end, while teammate Ryan Ledesma was a first-team linebacker. Crowell's Kody Knight was a second-team selection at quarterback.

Newcastle had four first-team Division II selections off its state semifinalist squad.

Tight end Ryan Bohannan and running back Michael Moreno represented the Bobcats on offense, while nose guard Hagan Bennett and linebacker Wade Spitzer made it on defense.

Bryson spreadback Tino Ortiz also was a first-team selection at spreadback.

Area second-team Division II selections were Newcastle's James Guerin (utility) and Bryson's Rowdy Finch (defensive line).
