Newcastle 73, Abilene Christian 28

ABILENE — Newcastle ran circles around Abilene Christian Thursday night, racking up 488 rushing yards in a 73-28 victory.

Michael Moreno spearheaded the Bobcats’ ground game with 241 yards and four touchdowns. Shane Potter chipped in 124 rushing yards and three scores.

David Brockman led Newcastle’s defense with 12 tackles. Moreno added nine stops, an interception and a fumble recovery.

The game was tied at 14-14 after the first quarter, but the Bobcats (1-1) outscored ACHS 52-14 over the middle two quarters. It was called with 4:44 remaining.

Blayze Walker threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns in a losing effort.

Wichita Christian 39, Lubbock Kingdom 18

Wichita Christian snapped a 14-game losing streak Thursday bight by scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from Lubbock Kingdom, 39-18.

Brent Holsberry threw for 200 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Luke Tate was Holsberry’s top target, catching six passes for 170 yards and a score. Martin Johnson led the Stars with 89 rushing yards.

Wichita Christian (1-1) takes on Christ Academy next Friday.
